I love reading nutritional books. I sometimes get some that actually make me laugh. For example, I got a book on self-hypnosis for weight loss. I am reading it and after the first 2 chapters, I realize that the book if full of 'feel-good' sayings, like how you are not at fault for being fat. The reason you are fat is that the food companies have actually hypnotised you to eat their crappy food. If you listened to the accompanying CD you will be deprogrammed. Plus the other reasons for being fat, like it is your genetics, family life, and a plethora of other reasons besides, "you eat too much and/or too much crap food". She also advocated no exercise. She said she hated it and she is thin without it. She was going to show all of us how to be thin without even taking an after-dinner walk. Bunk!
I don't think hypnosis is bunk. I think there is definitely something about the power of suggestion. Look at menus when you go to your favorite restaurant. Let's visit a chain restaurant that serves steak. If the menu said "dead lump of cow flesh served with a insect butt", I don't think you would be the first to order it. As a matter of fact, I would be headed to a greasy fast food place, before I ate insect butt. But what if the menu said "Our Tender 7 oz. Fillet of Beef paired with a cold-water lobster tail and melted butter". I can almost taste the tender seasoned beef and see the butter glistening off the white meat of the lobster.
Be right back, I am hungry now....
People who are overweight and have tried every diet are also a victim of their own self hypnosis. They look in the mirror and say they are ugly, and that they are worthless. They go shopping for clothes and beat themselves up mentally about how the things they would like to wear, they can't fit into to. Or that the number on their pants they are trying on is bigger then the last time. They see the worst, as if that is all every one sees.
Paul McKenna has a hypnosis type program that I really enjoyed and I think it helped me alot. He has you point out the best part of you in a mirror. To focus on the best part. He also has you pretend that you are your favorite famous person, and to stand like they stand, walk like they walk, feel like they feel. The power of suggestion are good messages flowing through your headset in stereo. His voice telling you different things in different ears, then combining.
The 18 minute sound track, i will listen too when I am already tired. The time of day when I am ready to take an hour nap. It gently wakes me up and I feel refreshed and ready for the rest of the day.
I have a copy of his older audio from a Friend of mine. This audio has two tracks. One is a short overview of the program. The four rules to being thin forever. When he got to rule, 'eat what you want', he had a caveat that wasn't in the American audio or book. Sugar, don't eat it. He says that it is an anti-nutrient. Doesn't say to stay away from honey or maple syrup, just sugar. He says to choose fresh non-processed food.
In the hypnosis tape that followed, he repeated the no processed food mantra. He says your body wants fresh food and you can eat as much fresh food as your body wants. If your body desires meat, then it probably needs something in the meat. Looking over the course of a week, your body will have consumed a balanced diet.
What is fresh food? It isn't bread, or biscuits, or candy. It is apples, chicken, and salad. If you are having any grain withdrawals, i recommend this product.
