Last Fall the Wendy's fast food chain restaurant introduced us all to it's natural cut french fries. Turns out the "natural cut" is not so natural after all. The only difference between these fries and the previous version is that they skip peeling them. After they are cut, they are doused with sodium acid pyrophosphate, a chemical that prevents them from turning brown because they get fried twice, at the factory and at the restaurant. They are also dusted with dextrose for the same reason. The oil that they get fried in, contains dimethylpolysiloxane, a chemical to prevent foaming after many many uses.
Makes me glad that I avoid fast food.
