The movie starts out much like many news stories about obesity, overweight people walking around with the cameras intentionally cutting off their heads, as to not embarrass them. Tom then compares himself to the 'obese' population. Tom is obese but he doesn't look like the rolly polly people that the news portrays as 25% of the population. At 5'11" and 206 pounds, Tom is OBESE
The beginning of the movie, I thought this was going to just be another experiment of eating less and being thoughtful about menu choices. Merab Morgan did it back in 2005 when she lost 37 pounds in 90 days.
Instead of just proving that Americans do in fact have functioning brains, he debunks traditional medicines views on nutrition and diet. He interviews real scientist like, Eric Oliver, PhD, Mary Enig, PhD, Mary Dan Eades, M.D., Al Sears, M.D, and more. They compare the diets of our hunter-gatherer ancestors and the diet of today. How heart disease and obesity rates went up after the doctors and government took away our lard, and animal products.
I have already read the Eades' books and some of the others. But when he was illustrating cholesterol and how it is a symptom and not the problem with heart disease, my daughter sat up and screamed that her mother was a genius, because that is what I have been teaching them all along.
This is a great documentary, with lots of facts figures backed by science. It is worth watching.
