A huge part of Primal nutrition is the exercise. It is Move Frequently at a Slow Pace, Lift Heavy Things, Sprint Once in a While. Well It is December in Maine and we have bouts of below freezing, intermittent snow and ice, then maybe a day of 50 degree rain that washes whatever we have away.
Move Frequently at a Slow Pace: Hard to move at any pace but a careful one when there is ice everywhere. The mountains that I hiked a month ago are freezing and icy. The local trails that I walked the dog are deep with cold mud. The roads that I biked are banked with ice, sand and salt, from the plowing from the scarce snow that we have had.
Lift Heavy Things: Well I have lifted a shovel once, but it really wasn't heavy. I started a power lifting circuit from the Jackie Warner's book (Chest, Quads, Triceps, Core, Back, Hamstring, Biceps, Core, and Glutes Shoulders Core) It is a good weight workout. The rest of the book has some good info, and some bad. My problem is that I am very much a social animal and want to have company while I workout. If it is not fun, I won't stick with it.
Sprint Once in a While: Again see the "Slow Pace" above. Until the snow falls heavy, I can't get outside. There is no running in these conditions or biking or even cross country skiing until the trails are covered.
So I am left with the option of joining a gym, I have to keep moving. I am practically pacing at home needing to play, but I have nothing to play right now. I know a gym membership is not very 'primal', but I have to do something. I would love to join just for a month, until the snow accumulates. Then I can ski all the time. But alas, if I join, it has to be for a year at a time. or month to month with an application fee.
I am on my way to take a yoga class at the gym, just so I can check it out before I join.
Today I check it
